Graduate Certificate The University of South Florida, Department of Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling, offers a Graduate Certificate in Behavioral Health Counseling. This certificate is for students and professionals who hold a bachelor’s degree and are interested in acquiring an in-depth understanding of integrative approaches to health and well-being. Students obtain the clinical perspectives and tools necessary for the emerging and exciting field of collaborative health care. This certificate program emphasizes collaboration between counselors and other health care professionals to better assist clients in achieving and maintaining wellness. It is appropriate for any mental health or addictions professional, nurse, nurse educator, nutritionist, or allied health care professional. Students study the relationship between lifestyle habits, mind/body practices, and emotional well-being. More specifically, students learn about the current research in regard to the therapeutic benefits of integrating yoga, exercise, meditation, and nutrition into the treatment of depression, excessive anxiety, addiction, and the rehabilitation of disabilities. The role of spirituality as a core dimension in health and well- being is also emphasized. Upon completion of this certificate program, students will acquire: 1) a working knowledge of mind/body modalities, 2) clinical approaches to successful behavioral health change 3) increased understanding of the field of positive psychology and 4) ways to interface with other health care professionals. The Behavioral Health Certificate program embraces practical application and experiential learning modalities. Since many of our students are employed, courses are offered in the evenings, during weekends, or in concentrated institute-like formats (alternative calendar). Faculty Coordinator: Gary DuDell, Ph.D., L.M.H.C., CAP, CRC has over thirty years of professional experience. He is a full-time faculty member in the Department of Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling. Along with his teaching responsibilities, Dr. DuDell coordinates field placement activities for Practicum and Intern students. He maintains a private practice and conducts workshops for mental health professionals and educators. Dr. DuDell has specifically focused on behavioral health concerns for over fifteen years. | |||
